1797 Antique Print of the Abbey of Aghamatart, County Laois  ,Ireland.  Aghaboe Abbey was founded in the sixth century by St. Canice.

1797 Antique Print of the Abbey of Aghamatart, County Laois  ,Ireland. 

Aghaboe Abbey was founded in the sixth century by St. Canice. On the print it refers to the old name Queens County rather than Laois There is an engraver’s signature on the bottom right, J Newton, most likely James Newton who was active at this time.

The engraving is dated as published by S Hooper in Holborn, London in 1792 , however these works where not actually published until 1797.

The engraving is in an impressed area size of 8 by 6 inches with the engraving measuring 6 1/2 inches by 4 3/4 inches. The overall paper size is 13 by 9 inches.

The engraving is in good condition, the impressed area is largely clear, there is age related foxing and toning on the paper, , please see pictures.
